I cannot say that I am anyway at all an avid gardener or have a wide ranging knowledge of all things green and flowery but with my recent move into my own apartment I have decided now is the time 'grow to my own'... balcony style!
To start off nice and easy I have planted a pot of herbs which is a mix of Rosemary, parsley and thyme. This was cheaply done; I bought a packet of Herb Sticks for €2.99. Herb sticks are basically herb seeds on sticks! If you can't find these anywhere, you can buy herbs in packets in all garden stores & even supermarkets.
So to plant the herbs you need to prepare a container. To do this you will need to fill the bottom of a container with a few cupfuls of stones so that the container will be weighed down and to ensure that it will not fall over in Irish gales. Then fill the container with compost and water well. The pot needs to be watered well before planting as compost / soil can be very dry which is not suitable for planting. Leave to soak for about 2 hours and then plant the herbs. Be sure to space evenly apart and vola you are on your way to having your very own herb garden! All you have to do now is water daily and wait!
