The Revenue Commissioners have said 95% of eligible homeowners have paid last year's property tax.

It took in €452m in the tax for last year - as well as €39m euro in property taxes due for 2015.

The figures form part of Revenue's total income of over €41bn euro last year, according to figures published this evening.

However, officials from the Department of Finance believe the compliance rate may actually be even higher, as there is no definitive list of all the properties in Ireland.
