15% say they won't pay household charge, according to Red C poll

Fifteen percent of people say they will not pay the controversial household charge, according to a newly released poll.

The Red C poll, carried out for Paddy Power, also found that 24% of homeowners do not know whether they are liable for the €100 charge.

So far, more than 30,000 homeowners are reported to have paid the charge, which came into force on January 1st. Up to 1.6 million householders are required to register their property for the charge by March 31st.

However, with 15% saying they won’t pay, a further 19% said they do not have to.
