The May Bank Holiday weekend is here and we can finally look forward to the start of summer and BBQ season.
While BBQ plans are very much weather dependent, we’ll be hoping over the next few weeks or months to be out our back gardens in the sun, grilling away to our hearts content.
BBQs are perfect for relaxing and enjoying good food with friends and family and but being prepared can be half the battle when it comes to having a good day.
Here are some tips to help you prepare for a fantastic BBQ:
- Plan your menu: Decide what you want to cook ahead of time. Consider your guests' preferences and any dietary restrictions.
- Make a shopping list: Once you have your menu planned, make a list of all the ingredients you'll need. Don't forget charcoal, lighter fluid, or propane if you're using a gas grill.
- Prepare marinades and sauces: If you're marinating meat or preparing special sauces, do this a day or two in advance to allow the flavours to develop.
- Clean your grill: Make sure your grill is clean and in good working condition before the big day. Scrub the grates and remove any built-up residue to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Prep ingredients: Chop vegetables, season meat and prepare any side dishes the day before to save time on the day of the BBQ.
- Set up your outdoor space: Arrange seating, set up tables for food and drinks and make sure you have plenty of utensils, plates and napkins handy.
- Stock up on drinks: Make sure you have a variety of beverages available for your guests, including water, soda, beer, wine and perhaps even some cocktails or mocktails.
- Consider the weather: Check the weather forecast and plan accordingly. Have a backup plan in case of rain, such as setting up a canopy or moving the party indoors.
- Don't forget the extras: Remember to have plenty of condiments, buns, and toppings for burgers and hot dogs. And don't overlook essentials like sunscreen.
- Enjoy yourself: Once everything is set up and the grill is fired up, relax and enjoy spending time with your guests. After all, that's what BBQs are all about!
