The island where John Lennon once planned to retire to with Yoko Ono is up for sale for the knockdown price of €300,000.
The deserted Dorinish Island – located off Co Mayo – is one of the most westerly of Clew Bay’s reputed 365 islands.
Now deserted, it is on the market with Westport based estate agent Sherry FitzGerald Crowley.
The island – which is roughly the size of a dozen football fields – is being offered as a spiritual retreat to a potential new owner, 45 years after The Beatles singer bought it.
Lennon had intended to retire there but following his death, Ono sold it to local farmers in 1984.
It is understood he had paid around €2,000 for the island in 1967.
Dorinish, known locally as Beatle island, has been on the market since mid-July.
Lennon and Ono visited the island in 1968, according to pictures still on display at Mulranny Park Hotel. He was asked in an interview published in Rolling Stone magazine in 1971 if he had a picture of the famous pair's life when he hit 64.
'I hope we’re a nice old couple living off the coast of Ireland or something like that - looking out at our scrapbook of madness,' Lennon said.
