A record €616 million in grants and supports was paid out by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) for energy upgrades and clean energy projects in 2024.
This figure represented a 13% increase in activity compared to the previous year as more and more homeowners looked to retrofit their properties.
Two thirds of the funding, or €420 million, was allocated to 54,000 home energy upgrades. These included upgrades for more than 7,700 homes deemed to be in energy poverty.
The figures suggest the average SEAI grant per home energy upgrade projects was €7,800.
Just one out of every 15 projects included a heat pump, according to the figures, with a total of 3,609 heat pump grants paid out by the authority last year.
Almost 22,000 or 40% of the total of 54,000 home upgrades achieved a B2 energy rating or higher.
The SEAI’s recent Energy In Ireland report found that national energy related emissions decreased by 8.3% in 2023 reaching their lowest level in thirty years.
Last year MyHome launched a new tool for homeowners and potential buyers called MyHomeEcoRating, which features on each brochure page for every property on the site which lists a full BER certificate.
It provides a clear understanding of the current and potential Building Energy Rating (BER) of a property, the investment required for property upgrades and the available SEAI grants.
Our Buyers’ Advice Hub, in partnership with Cairn, also outlines the various grants and support available to you and how you can apply. You can check it out here.
